War of 1812 private, Tennessee Militia. His 1854 bounty land warrant went to his three minor daughters because he was already dead. His headstone is an obelisk reading SACRED TO THE MEMORY OF OUR FATHER / JAMES McCANSE / WHO DIED / MAR. 12, 1842 / AGED 60 YEARS — no Arthur in the name, which is what RootsMagic added and what merged him with his grandson.
